What Does Out-of-Network Mean?

While finding a medical provider in-network with your insurance is generally the initial plan, including out-of-network providers can help expand your options for treatment. An in-network provider is one contracted with the health insurance company to provide services to plan members for specific pre-negotiated rates. An out-of-network provider is one not contracted with the health insurance plan.

Benefits can vary from 0-100% depending on your insurance. You can verify your costs by calling your insurance company or we can check for you. Fortunately, depending on your plan, your insurance company may help reimburse a portion of the cost by mailing you a check. For example, most PPO and POS health plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network services.

We will provide a document called a Superbill that you send directly to your insurance company. The Superbill provides details about your appointment and the total fee.
